Oxford Table Tennis
Oxford University Table Tennis Club is hosting the annual Table Tennis Cuppers tournament, which will be played from from Sunday 1 May onwards.
There will be 3 events:
Team (can be 2 men, 2 women or mixed)
Women’s singles
Men’s singles (women can enter this too if they wish)
All 3 tournaments will be straight knock-out, but teams / players losing in the first round will go into a plate competition, so everyone is guaranteed at least 2 matches.
OUTTC members (college members and full members) can enter free of charge. If their team mate is a non-member, there is no need for the team mate to pay an entry fee to play in the team competition. Non-members must pay £3 each, which includes entry to both the team and individual events (although there is no obligation to enter both.)
OUTTC will host Cuppers games at Iffley Road from Sunday 1 May onwards. The sessions available for cuppers matches are Sundays 3.30-5.30pm and Thursdays 4.30pm-6.30pm, and we encourage you to come down and play matches at Iffley! However, matches may be played in colleges if players are happy with conditions there. Matches from the quarter-finals onwards must be played at Iffley Road, unless otherwise agreed by the club.
Entry forms are available on the colleges home page. We will contact you with further information about the rules once you have been assigned to play a match. Teams / Individual players must sign up by Friday 29 April.
Good luck!
On Sunday the 28th of February Oxford hosted the 73rd annual Varsity match against Cambridge at Iffley Road. Oxford was determined to break Cambridge’s 12-year winning streak, including five consecutive 10-0 losses between 2010 and 2014. Some of Cambridge’s top players from last year had left the club, whereas Oxford felt it could field a stronger team than in recent years.
In the Women’s 1st match the traditional difference in strength unfortunately still remains. Oxford fought hard and won more sets than last year, with Sue being very close to taking a decisive lead in the third, but this was not to be. Cambridge has an extremely strong Women’s team and confirmed this with a 10-0 win.
